weh weh weh

Sorry for the absence but i have been passing out every night instead of doing things i need to get done, which is super. getting back into retail hours is always a fun trip.  just no fun hallucinations.

first off, when i get my paycheck you can be sure that 12 dollars will be going to amazon to purchase HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT on DVD so i can always be witness to the glory that is a judas priest show parking lot in glen burnie in 1986.

second, do yourself a favor and check out the Wax Poetics digital music store, an awesome multi-genre collection of artists and albums that may be a bit more expensive but are selected by the people at Wax Poetics and are not governed by a huge corporation or undiscerning audience.

third, Dreamboat Annie.  perfect for summer and playing while I hot roller/feather my hair before a date with an equally feathered hot stoner named earl who has his own airbrushed van with carpeted interior.  did i mention i currently live in 1977?  time travel's a trip, man.

theres more but i forgot.  damn earl.

Hell yeah!

This is painful. Watch with caution!

:(

Ingrid Michaelson

...is awesome when you're feeling blue or want to relax, but Ingrid Michaelson in concert is THE most awesomest greatest fantastical thing I've experienced this YEAR. Holy crap! Not a single boring or bad moment. She's funny, engaging, and makes simple but reeally beautiful music. There was one song she did with a round, like, two voices singing the same part at different times and it was hypnotic. Just had to put that out there for those of you (coughedencough) who hate girls with guitars. Not ALL of them are boring and sad, so stop being lame and start listening to Ingrid. That's all for now :)

Random music musings...

It is way too quiet in here, kids... somebody start posting.

Anyway, a few things.

1. I think we should do a collective rant blog about overused clichés and predictable lyrics. For example: If I hear "winter" or "December" used as a metaphor for sadness one more time... I'm over it, and it's actually starting to ruin otherwise good songs for me (Gwen Stefani - Early Winter). Maybe a group rant blog could inject some life back into this thing.

2. Dear Coldplay... just when I think you have settled on one particular sound and could potentially release a truly boring album, you surprise me with Viva La Vida which is one of THE most lush and compelling albums I've heard this year. Holy shit. I'm listening to it for the first time now and I am devoid of feelings because it's so hypnotic. All the feeling is going to flow back through me during the second listen when I'm like... damn, this is awesome. Not only is it well-written and full of new sounds, but it's crossfaded; there are no gaps between tracks. There are interludes and instrumental tracks and... I know it's Coldplay, but there's... variety? Yes! Variety! I loved Coldplay before but now I am coming to respect them more as musicians and not just an awesome moody radio-friendly rock-pop quartet.

3. Do you need to tap into your inner homosexual man for awhile and feel like a club kid? Did you like the overall gay/disco/house sound of Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor album but felt the lyrics were slightly ridiculous? (If you don't like New York, then you can F off/ Just go to Texas, that's where they golf... WTF!) Then might I recommend Kaskade's new album Strobelite Seduction. Holy crap, I think listening to that album finally made me confident in my gayness.

That's all for now. Where did everyone go?

Coldplay tour postponed

I can deal with that. I'm still recovering from Death Cab and this will give my ears time to heal. Actually, I'm posting a link to this article because it's hilarious. The mental images contained within the first two paragraphs made me L-O-L 4realz. kthnxbai

Massive Attack!!!1111111

This might be the most exciting news all summer. I mean, I'm definitely looking forward to new Coldplay and Conjure One, but this is Massive effing Attack. Even if they hate the term, they *started* trip-hop. They haven't released anything since 2003's 100th Window which was just...weird. Listenable, enjoyable, but...weird. Now I find out that they are releasing a new album with AMAZING collaborations: Damon Albarn (Gorillaz, Blur), Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star), Stephanie Dosen, Horace Andy, Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio). There are also rumors of collaborations with Mike Patton (Faith No More), Patti Smith and David Bowie.

Massive played last night in Estonia and their set included the debut of EIGHT new songs. Reading the new info on their messageboard made me giddy and retarded inside. Describing the tracks as "surprisingly chilled out" and "stunningly beautiful" sound very promising.

By the by, Death Cab show last night was effing awesome. Ben Gibbard has a voice like no other. I was spellbound from the very first vocals on Bixby Canyon Bridge.

Muxtape!

I finally made one. Becky, I know you're proud. It's timmyc83.muxtape.com but I haven't uploaded any songs yet. Am I limited to 12? Or is it 12 per mix and I can make as many mixes as I want? I've already got about 32,801 x 10^67e ideas for mixes swimming around in my head. Limiting it to 12 might be as impossible as getting your mom's vagina to ever feel tight again.

Also, I listened to your mix that you made me in January '07 with Band of Horses, Sondre Lerche, The Knife, etc. and it's still a milestone on my road of epic mixtapes. I would continue to rave about it and/or make your mom jokes but I have to go peddle chocolate.

I am so effing gay.

Only someone who is truly gay for music would remember something like this...

Five years ago today was the first time I heard this song, which served as my soundtrack to the entire summer of 2003 and many subsequent drives to the beach, epic heartbreaks, and lonely walks next to water. I'm not really as emo as I sound.

This, to me, is possibly the most perfect song I've ever heard. No annoying vocals, beautiful sample, balearic ambience, and lyrics that actually match the mood of the song for once.

P.S. I don't know if it displays it or not, but the song is "Just a Dream" by Delerium with vocals provided by Margaret Far.

Iggy Pop!

I just saw the move "Control" about Ian Curtis and Joy Division (super late, I know) and so now I am all about Joy Division/New Order/Bowie/Iggy Pop and one of the records he played in the movie was Iggy's "The Idiot."  This album is technically Iggy's solo debut away from the Stooges as well as a collaboration between Bowie and Pop.  It was released in 1977 and worked with the German electronic influences Bowie was using during his "Heroes" period.  Theres a good blend of genres in this album and I have "Nightclubbin" on my muxtape, check it.
